Soaring Spirits

Soaring Spirits
Rose of the Month For October, 2010
by Lydia Treadway, Master Rosarian

Named by their families to honor those who were killed in the bombing of the World Trade Center, ‘Soaring Spirits’ is the second in a series of roses dedicated to providing funds for the Remember Me Rose Gardens maintenance fund. This rose sends out huge, ruffled clusters of striped yellow and pink blossoms of showy swirls. Its vigor and repeat bloom cycle will make you want more and more of these to cover a fence, arbor or trellis. I am delighted with this rose in my garden and it always surprises me with the variation of changing pastel pink, yellow and cream hues. It commonly throws 10-12 foot canes, so give it plenty of room. A strong bloomer even the first season. Very glossy new green leaves set this vigorous, clean climber apart from any other rose. It will rarely be out of flower. Repeat blooms readily on new & old wood.

Breeder: Tom Carruth
Class: Large-flowered climber
Color Class: Pink blend
Fragrance: Moderate fresh-cut apple
Parentage: ‘Berries 'n' Cream’ x 'Fourth of July'
ARS Rating: 7.7
